Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) has made one of the highest epidemic in World history infecting over 1400 and killing more than 800 in seven (7) months. West Africa countries, Liberia,Sierra Leone and Guinea, are majorly the sufferers of the deadly disease, though death and infectious cases have been recorded in some other countries like Ghana and Nigeria, it's still minimal.
Many fears globally over its spread in underestimated as many countries are already carrying out preventive measure to stop its spread. The World Bank President, Jim Yong Kim, expresses his sadness on this outbreak owing to the fact that this these countries have been suffering from adequate health care facilities before the outburst of this disease. Many health workers, most especially in Liberia, now are backing off due to the fear of contracting the virus. Sequel to this, Yong Kim, on behalf World Bank, has pledged a sum of $200m to to help provide medical facilities, pay health care staff as wages has even been increased, and also take care of other priorities to contain the disease and try prevent future outbreak.
It was reported that many top doctors in both Liberia and Sierra Leone treating the Ebola cases lost their lives due to the many patients flocking them. Two of US citizen doctors have also been infected and flown back to their countries.
At the moment, cure and vaccine are still in search, though there is promising effort in USA where a particular treatment was showing a positive result on the infect doctors. I hope this will yield a perfect result as the World can't wait...What is your take?
