The World Cup trophy that was presented to Germany after their victory on Argentina in the finals has said to have been damaged by one of the team players. The report which was revealed yesterday said that after they arrived home with great joy, they toured the whole of Berlin in the middle of the week with it and in that process, no one knew how a part of the trophy chopped off. Although, inestigation is still on in the quest of who amongst them could have done it, Germany Football Association (DFB) has already started repairing it.
But, could we say Germany is fortunate? The cup that was given to them is a replica of the one presented to them at the Maracan stadium on July 13 which worths over € 10 million owing to past experience of theft attempt on the former (Jules Rimes) trophy in 1983. But is it wise enough to be given a trophy replica rather than the original after the great victory over the World Cup hurdles? What is the essence of the contest then when winning countries cannot be handed the original trophy home? Let's deliberate...
