It has been revealed that a large number of children hav edropped out of all western schools most especially in the vulnerable north-eastern part of Nigeria. Every one in three school chilfren and one in four junior secondary school children have dropped out of school with Borno alone, state where the over 200 school girls were kidnapped, not less than 250,000 children are out of school since the last 100 days. UN, other international organisation and countries have been making efforts to encourage western culture in this part of the country. A sum of $100 million is targeted for "Safe School" initiative, so far private sector and Govenments have been able to contribute a sum of $20 million. Japanese government,through the UN, have made an emergency grant of $885,000 to assist the abducted Chibok girls and their community.
Normally, in the northern part of the country, it is predominant by muslims who hold Islam and its education in high esteem. Any form of western education is not encouraged. "BOKO" is the name given to western school, a name that is not recognised. an average northerner prefers to go to arabic school. So it will really be hard to persuade them on the importance of education if its not in line with Islamic law. But many fail to understand that Knowledge has no boundary and is no waste.
