Google has decided to to shut down Orkut after 10 years of operation owing to the fact that other social networks like Google+, Youtube, and Blogger have been able to far above Orkut and it wish to divert all its strength to the ones that are really thriving. Orkut has over 100 million users and has been existing since 2004 which has majority of its users in both India and Brazil and in 2008, Google announced to manage and operate Orkut in Brazil due to its user base and growth. But in 2010, Fcaebook took over India where up to 18 million visitors were recorded compared to 19.7 million by Orkut. Guess this is the main reason for Google's action as the situation could be exacerbated year after year.
Google has however apologised for any inconvenience this might have caused and hope people will move to other outstanding social network communities.
