AS THE WORLD CELEBRATES THE NOBEL LAUREATE, WOLE SOYINKA AT 80







               One of the people highly respected and recognised ,not only in Nigeria,but Worldwide, a nobel price winner for literature in 1986, with a recurring theme of his work in opposition to dictatorship and the use of sanction, Professor Wole Soyinka is turning 80 on sunday July 13 2014. Although, he focus mainly on literature,he is never passive when it comes to advisory in Nigerian politics. He really took an active role during the time the over 200 school girls were kidnapped revealing on BBC that if Nigeria can't bring these girls back, the she is not mature enough to manage herself.

               Wole Soyinka was born in abeokuta, capital of Ogun, southwestern state of Nigeria on 13th of July,1934. Brought up by an Anglican minister/Headmaster father. Although he was able absorb western-oriented early enough but he never let go the Yoruba ethic myth and tradition where he hails from. Yoruba which is one of the three largest ethnic groups in Nigeria, Wole Soyinka was able to transmit his Literature-prose and poetry- influences in his life.

After his graduation (studied literature in the UK) in the 50's, he returned home to get devoted to African drama and combining African Tradition with that of the western world with strong commitment to politics. His poem Ogun Abibiman, written in 1977, steeped in Yoruba mysticsm, was highly topical as it went deep into the war between Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
                     Soyinka celebrated NIgeria Independence declaration in 1960 with his play, "A Dance Of The Forest" which was performed in Lagos. He was highly commended for his work and he urged Nigeria society to consider her past and not repeat the same mistake. In 1966 when the military took over and later the outbreak of the civil war, Wole Soyinka actively participated in calling for Peace where he called for peace talk between the two sides,(Nigeria and her south-eastern part which later named themselves Biafra with the intention of secession) but he was later arrested, charged of treason and was imprisoned for two (2) years.
                       He has never stopped speaking and standing for the truth and has influenced many lives with his whole lifestyle. He is an icon to be remembered and celebrated. Long Live Sir... Share your words with him...
